Why Your Support Matters

Due to the government shutdown, October 31st is the expected last day that federally funded food assistance like SNAP benefits (known in California as CalFresh and commonly known as food stamps) will be issued.

In November, traditionally a time of feast and harvest, expired SNAP benefits mean 42 million Americans and
1,500 LTSC clients going hungry.

That’s why we’re launching an Emergency Food Assistance Fund to raise $20,000 to ensure our most at-risk community members (seniors, unhoused people, and low-income families with children) can keep food on the table.

YOU can make sure no one in our community goes hungry! Donate to our Emergency Food Assistance Fund to keep food on the table for 1,500 of our clients.

p.s. If federal funds are restored, any remaining donations will be directed to LTSC’s Client Assistance Fund, which provides ongoing emergency support for clients facing food, housing, or health-related crises year-round.

Update 10/31/25: A federal judge in Rhode Island has ordered the federal administration to continue paying SNAP benefits during the government shutdown, temporarily preventing millions from losing food assistance. While this ruling offers short-term relief, there remains significant uncertainty about how and when benefits will actually be distributed.
